commitment with the projects presented/displayed to the aids. This can be materialized by two routes. One, with the financial contribution, of personnel and other resources for the execution of these or, in its defect, with its will to continue with the areas of development impelled by them. All the projects are of institutional character.

In the case of association between institutions, it will have to settle down which is the one that assumes the main function of institution.

The incorporation of foreign institutions of I+D, like partners in certain projects, allows to attract more resources, a fast transference of knowledge, and an interest in developing activities and obtaining results with national institutions altogether. Like consequence, the project can be executed in smaller term, and to smaller costs; to have greater impact and to obtain a mutual knowledge between foreign and national investigators, as well as between the directors of the academic institutions.

Participation of the Private Sector

The participation of the companies and others counterparts, must contribute to the following specific actions:

• Formulation of the problems or opportunity to treat
• Formulation of the methodology and plans of work
• Financing of the projects, with a contribution of, at least, a 20% of the total cost (effective values to 1999)
• Accomplishment of parts or pertinent stages of the projects
• Accomplishment of technological transference and activities of build up and commercialization.
• Participation in directories
• Participation in strategic management of projects.

Thus also, and with the purpose of jeopardizing to the Institutions of I+D with the projects, Fondef requires that these - in addition to the companies or others counterparts - contribute with own resources. Of this form, the projects finance by means of these three simultaneous and complementary routes: the Chilean Government, through the action of Fondef, the institutions and the companies or others counterparts.

Therefore, all the projects financed by Fondef include the participation and I contribute specific of the productive sector to guarantee this transference and to obtain the required impacts.

Those national and international companies can participate in projects FONDEF all that can to make the expressed contributions previously. And that has decided to use the innovation to improve their individual enterprise management and to be more competitive.
