From its creation in 1991, to year 2006, Fondef has awarded *$139.288.112 Chilean pesos  to 614 pre-competitive projects of Research and Development. Through its program of Technology Transfer, it has financed 243 projects by an amount superior to *$6.400.000 pesos. *Figures updated to January 2006.

Fondef has produced important changes in the national scientific and technological community, making possible a genuine cooperation between researchers and professionals of companies in projects of R + D.

Another outstanding aspects are the increase in the capacity of technology transfer, the creation of  market value, the development of scientific and technological management capacities, in universities and private companies.

Fondef has been stimulating the internationalization of its projects through the active participation in research teams. Today, 30% of the financed initiatives have international participation.

Conscious of the importance of the protection of the results obtained by the financed projects, Fondef has been leading a culture intellectual property protection. It was the first State Fund that supported protection of the intellectual property. This has meant that, in the middle of the 2006, the Fondef projects count on 171 patents, between pending and granted.

Fondef is perceived like a powerful  mechanism to tie the R + D with the social necessities of technology innovation of companies and other institutions. It has strongly contributed to establish reliable relations between those who make R + D and those who use, thanks to joint research management and work to obtain results and share the  costs and benefits

By three consecutive years Fondef projects have received Sello Bicentenario (Bicentennial Seal), recognition that awards initiatives of  the civil society to improve quality of life of the poorest , by virtue of its remarkable contribution to our identity and to the construction of Chile that we want. This prize started the year 2004 by the Commission Bicentennial, and it will be given annually until year 2010, date in which Chile will commemorate two hundred years of republican life.
